Our first 6-a-side football tournament on behalf of a well known and successful football league the Crawley & District Football League was a huge success. The Crawley & District Football League which was founded in 1956, so 2006 sees the 50th year of providing organised adult football for what was back then a "New Town", and is still a thriving "young"' town.
The size of the League has fluctuated over the year's, but started this anniversary season with 38 clubs, fielding 49 teams between them.
That represents over 1500 people playing, managing, refereeing and administering the games each week.
The League is part of the National League System, comprising 60 Leagues across the whole of England within a formal structure whereby a Club can potentially progress from the Level (7) to the Football Conference at Level 1, and even on from there into the professional game.

Twenty four teams comprising of four leagues of six teams competed against each other to see who would become the outright champions of the Crawley & District Football League's 50th Anniversary Cup.

One team stood out in the group stages was Tilgate from league two who won all five of their games without conceding a goal and ending up with a goal difference of +13. The team closest to them were County Oak A from league one who finished with thirteen points by drawing one game against Ifield Edwards.
Both winners of league three & four finished their group stages with eleven points. Broadfield gaining the highest goal difference +7 then Greets Inn only one behind with +6.
The runners up positions in each league were Ifield Edwards in league one with thirteen points & a goal difference of +8, Three Bridges in league three with ten points & a goal difference of +6, Phoenix in league four with eight points & a goal difference of +3 and St Francis Flyers B in league two with nine points & a goal difference of +2.
One of the teams in the final was Phoenix who knocked out Broadfield 1-0 in their quarter final then narrowly beat St Francis Flyers 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 score line at the end of full time.
The other team in the final was Tilgate who narrowly knocked out Ifield Edwards 2-1 in their quarter final then convincingly beating Three Bridges 4-0.

The final was an end to end attacking game that saw Tilgate level the scores to 2-2 in the last minute of full time taking the game to penalties.

Phoenix became the Crawley & District Football League 50th Anniversary winners by beating Tilgate 4-2 on penalties.

The Golden boot was won by Andy Howard from Phoenix with a total of five goals.
