After the disposing of Partridge Green in the previous round of the Frank Geiss Memorial Trophy, Twin Oaks found themselves up against "A" division opponents Lingfield FC in the second round of this cup competition.

The early passages of the play in the match saw neither side able to gain any real advantage and against a more experienced Lingfield side, Twin Oaks found themselves able to compete against the side from the higher division on equal terms.

Scoring chances in the first half were to prove few and far between with both sides spending most of the time taking part in a midfield battle. The few attacking moves that took place in the half were met by strong defensive play by both teams and it was no wonder that both sides went off at half-time with the score standing at 0-0.

The second half of this game pretty much followed the same pattern as the first half with neither side able to dominate the other. Again like the first half attacking moves were few and far between and as the game entered the last 15 minutes you always had the feeling that the first team to score would go on to win the match.

With 10 minutes to go a through ball by the Lingfield midfield found an attacking player inside the Twin Oaks penalty area, who running onto the ball, was able to find the back of the net. The away side were 1-0 up.

With time on the clock running out Twin Oaks gallantly tried to force a comeback and applied some fine attacking play but it was Lingfield who proved to be finishing the game the stronger side and with 5 minutes left they were able to break through the Twin Oaks defence to score their second goal.

The game finished 2-0 to the side from the "A" division, but in a hard fought game Twin Oaks can look back on the fact that they were never outplayed and gave the more experienced team a run for their money.
