I hate being linesman. But I did not purposefully give Ryan’s mum offside, she was just wearing the same colour as the opposition!

Despite colour clashes between spectators and the opposition I felt that all went very well today, other than being able to remember what order the goals were scored so do forgive me for a little artistic licence.

Rather than being 2-0 down after 10 minutes, we were actually 2-0 up after 10 minutes which was a nice position to be in. We had already made numerous chances and played and kept the ball very well.

The first goal was from Sam who was sent through from a defence splitting pass and around the penalty spot he toe poked the ball past the keeper’s left hand, and the ball rolled into the net.

The second goal came from Liam’s corner being cleared to outside the area, where Elliot brought the ball down and hit a blistering drive which took a slight ricochet before ending in the back of the net. The end result was a goal and I suspect a ball which didn’t meet its guarantees as a new one had to be supplied. I think I may have to impose a club fine on any boy that kicks the ball too hard! Still, what a strike Elliot, one to remember.

Our third goal came from Sam once again, following in from a barrage on the opposition goal where he followed up a shot and finished with his second goal.

At this point maybe we sat back on our laurels a little and let them bring the score back to 3-1. James and I, and I am sure your parents noticed that your heads dropped a little despite being very much in charge of the game. It was late in the first half when we were almost brought back to 3-2, but for a superb tackle by Charlie on our penalty spot, where he had caught up with the attacker, who was just about to pull the trigger.

Matt had also tipped a shot over moments earlier after Billingshurst took a shot from distance.

We went in winning 3-1 at half time and justifiably so for the possession and movement and shots that we had.

The second half began as the first half had finished with Ellias hitting a shot from the right hand edge of the area, and Jerome scoring the fifth from a volley after the keeper had parried a corner to the six yard line.

Sam finally for all his efforts scored his hat trick and changed within a week from villain to hero. An excellent performance.

As the end of the game drew close Billingshurst pulled back two goals with their third coming only a few minutes from full time when one of their better players bundled his way into the right hand side of the penalty area and struck a fierce left footed drive past Matt and inside the left hand post.

I think that our best period of the game was the first 25 minutes until they scored during which time we passed very well and supported the player on the ball and knew that the odds would be that we would get a pass. When they scored we became tentative and started to blame each other rather than getting on with it and putting things right as a group. With the skill and ability that you all have you can match anyone of your own age group and beat 99%. When the opposition strikes as it will, then raise your game and strike back. The way you have played over the past weeks has put a smile on the face of everyone who watches the game. You too should take some pride, with the technique and artistry that you play with. Play with a smile and that will come through in your efforts.

Neither Tom nor Liam scored today. Tom was in my opinion very unfortunate after finishing a tremendous passing move only to be given offside at the far post. Liam kept shooting and playing some super crosses. Relax fellas, and the rewards will come. Until it happens just keep contributing to the team as you are.

We are through to the next round of the cup and hopefully some tougher opposition to compete with.

Someones going to get it and I think its Tom!
