Our second tournament presented us with an early start and some interesting challenges to individuals within the team.
Sam and Ryan were to share goalkeeping duties, and Sam, Shaun, Ryan and Charlie at various times were taking the majority of defensive duties.
The first two games were 0-0 draws against Eastbourne Borough and would you believe Worthing Utd. This time our team was more or less the same size as Worthing but I feel this time we were unlucky not to win. Our draw against Eastbourne Borough turned out better than we thought as they were to beat the eventual winners Rusthall.
The third game both James and I expected to be difficult against Ridgeway Crusaders and was made so by a fluke of a goal as Ryan tried to clear the ball from his goal area, his clearance hit their centre forward and rolled gently back into our goal. However we played really well in the second period and Tom caused a lot of problems and eventually slid the ball past their keeper.
Game 4 was against Rusthall, and again this was to be a tough game. Both Jack and Josh ran themselves ragged with both making excellent interceptions. Also I must highlight Sam who performed some miraculous saves and I have to say kept us in the game.
As we had drawn all four of our games to date the final game was one to enjoy as with only 4 points we would not be able to go through to the semi finals. Another good performance was had and Ryan took advantage of the oppositions tiredness by finding space as he is so apt to do and slotting two goals and Josh adding a third.
The winners of the tournament were Rusthall who beat Oakwood.
I was really pleased that we did not lose and only conceded 1 goal throughout the tournament.
