With the defeat of Forest Row and East Grinstead Town losing their match last week, Twin Oaks were now three points clear and sitting pretty at the top of the table. Twin Oaks game this week was against an Old Dorkinians side currently lying in fourth place in the table that at this stage of the season still had aspirations of challenging for the league title themselves. When these two sides met back in October of last year the game finished in a 4-4 draw, in a match that Twin Oaks should have won. Currently on a hat-trick of successive wins, another victory today would take Twin Oaks a giant step closer to claiming the league crown, but the home side knew that this would not be an easy task against a strong and competitive Old Dorkinians team.

The match started with both sides fighting hard to control the game. It would be the away side that would gain the first advantage by scoring the opening goal. After 3 minutes an attacking move found an Old Dorkinians forward receive the ball in the penalty area and slot the ball past the Twin Oaks keeper for the first goal, 1-0 to the away side

Like so many games this season a goal scored against them seemed to kick-start Twin Oaks into action and only a minute after the away side had scored, a cross from Cameron sent over to the far post was headed in by Ben.

Four minutes played and the score was 1-1. After 2 more minutes on the clock, a smart ball through to Bradley, found him in on goal with only the goalkeeper to beat. He expertly placed the ball into the net to make it 2-1 to Twin Oaks after an incredible opening 16 minutes.

Both teams were closely matched and both were creating a number of chances to score. At this stage of the match it was difficult to tell which way this game was going to go. With the half-time interval fast approaching a fine attacking move down the right side of the pitch resulted in a shot on the run by one of the Old Dorkinian forwards, the ball flew past Aaron and into the net to make the score 2-2 after 27 minutes of play. Shortly afterwards and virtually on the stroke of half-time an attacking move down the right wing by Twin Oaks resulted in Ben having to leave the field injured after a strong tackle. The half ended with both sets of supporters anxious to see how the second half would take shape and which one of these two sides would finish the game the eventual winners.

The manager’s half-time team talk must have certainly had an affect on the Twin Oaks players as they started the second half in a strong positive mood. They settled into a fine display of attacking football and they were certainly taking the game to the opposition. Several chances came and went but within a frantic 5 minute period mid-way through the second half the home side found themselves 4-2 ahead. First on 12 minutes Jack was able to make the score 3-2 and then some 4 minutes later Bradley scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-2 after 16 minutes.

This barrage of attacking play and resulting goals seemed to have put an end to any hope that Old Dorkinians had of getting any form of result from this game. The away side had chances of their own to score in the second half but it was Twin Oaks who had managed to outplay the visitors. There was just enough time on the clock for Twin Oaks to add a final and fifth goal. Ben, who at half-time had left the field of play injured, was now back on the pitch and was proving a real handful for the opposition, it was his exquisite and skilful turn in the Old Dorkinians penalty area during the last minute of the match set up Jack who managed to slot the ball into the net for his second goal of the game. After the restart the full-time whistle blew and the match ended with a 5-2 win for Twin Oaks.

A strong second half performance by the whole team had won the game for Twin Oaks. Keep going lad’s !!!!
