Horsham Tigers U12's 0

With Twin Oaks unable to play this game on their home pitch due to the premature removal of the goalposts at Ifield Community School , this game was to be an evening kick-off that took place at the oppositions pitch in Horsham. In this penultimate game of the season Twin Oaks still remained top of the table three points ahead of the second placed side, East Grinstead Town . A handsome win here would virtually seal the title for Twin Oaks as even a defeat in their last game of the season against Albury Eagles, would mean that East Grinstead would have to win their last game by a landslide score to pip Twin Oaks to the league trophy.

The match began with neither side, in the first 5 minutes, able to impose themselves on the game. After this opening period of play Twin Oaks started to move the ball around well and with the defence looking solid Twin Oaks were able to compress the play into the Horsham Tigers half of the field and really put their opponents defence under pressure. After several half chances Twin Oaks were to take the lead on 10 minutes. A good attacking move resulted with a fierce shot by Bradley, whose effort was blocked only for the ball to fall to Harry who was able to guide the ball into the net with a sweet left foot shot, 1-0 to Twin Oaks.

Never really in any trouble you felt that Twin Oaks were in need of a second goal to steady their nerves and allow them to relax and play their football with the flair that they had shown throughout most of the season.

On 18 minutes some clever play down the right side of the pitch resulted in a free-kick to Twin Oaks. Although a fair distance out Tim fancied his chances and his strike sent the ball floating into the Horsham Tigers net. In turning away to celebrate his effort with his fellow team-mates he noticed that the referee had blown his whistle and signalled a goal-kick, explaining that it had in fact been an indirect free-kick as indicated by his raised arm before Tim had struck the ball.

Twin Oaks were now mounting several attacks that were resulting in a number of chances to score the all important second goal, however for some reason they seemed unable to put the ball away. It took until the 25th minute before they scored again with the goal coming from a passage of play down the right hand side that resulted in a superb lobbed shot from Ben finding the back of the net. 5 minutes to go until half-time and the score now 2-0.

A goal-mouth scramble just before half-time seemed certain to result in a third goal for Twin Oaks but the loose ball was pounced on by the Horsham Tigers goalkeeper. So the score remained 2-0 at half-time.

After the interval Twin Oaks continued to go forward in search of more goals and apart from a few break away chances by Horsham Tigers, the away side playing on their home pitch rarely caused the title chasing side any real problems. For all their play it took a full 16 minutes of the second half for Twin Oaks to increase their lead. A long range shot from Murat that seemed to be covered by the goalkeeper, saw the ball unfortunately spin up and off of him as he went to gather the shot. The ball rolled across the line and into the goal. Twin Oaks 3-0 in front.

Twin Oaks not content with just the three goals continued to attack and with a couple of minutes of the game remaining they were awarded a free-kick for a foul outside of the Horsham Tigers penalty area. This time it was indicated as a direct free-kick. Tim again stepped up to take the kick and again, like his effort in the first half, his strike sailed over the keeper into the net, this time it was a goal. The score was now 4-0.

This was to be the final score, and the win was cheered by the Twin Oaks players and supporters alike as they knew that this result had taken them another step closer to winning the league title. It would now all go down to the last game of the season but this win meant that Twin Oaks were now in control of their own destiny. Well done lad's !
