The second, and first, home game of the season saw Twin Oaks take on another newly formed team in Forest Row. After last week’s magnificent performance the expectations of the Twin Oaks players were high and their supporters were hoping to see another exciting and enthralling match.

The first 5 minutes saw an uneasy start to the game with both sides finding it hard to settle into the match.

The next 15 minutes, however, saw Twin Oaks get the ball down and start to dominate the play. Several lovely passing moves led to a number of attacks, all that seemed to be missing was the final decisive attempt on goal.

One such Twin Oaks attack nearly resulted in the goal that perhaps this passage of play deserved.

A neat interchange of passes on the edge of the Forest Row penalty area resulted in Matt’s right foot effort beating the keeper only for the ball to strike the top of the crossbar.

It was after this effort that Forest Row came into the game and during the last few minutes of the half they mounted several attacks on the Twin Oaks goal. The Twin Oaks defence was able to withstand the late pressure and both sides reached half-time with the score at 0-0

Forest Row continued the second half as they had finished the first, it now seemed to be their turn to dominate the game. Several attacking moves through the centre of the pitch saw the Twin Oaks defence start to drop deeper towards their own goal and with 7 minutes of the second half played their striker, from the edge of the area, sent in a fierce shot towards goal. The diving Twin Oaks keeper managed to get his fingertips to the ball but he had little chance of stopping the ball thundering into the net. Forest Row 1-0 ahead.

Twin Oaks to their credit rallied and started to apply some pressure of their own, but the neat attacking passing play that they had showed in the first half was never matched during the second period. As they went in search of the all important equaliser they were caught out with a second counter attacking goal from Forest Row.

Forest Row now 2-0 ahead with little over 5 minutes left.

Twin Oaks continued to battle away, but the missed first half chances and the lack of attempts on goal in the second half were to prove costly. Forest Row added a late third goal and finished the game 3-0 winners.

There were several good performances by the Twin Oaks players and worthy of a mention are Tim who made several timely defensive clearances and Scott who worked hard to break up the Forest Row play in the midfield.

From my position on the sidelines Twin Oaks, although not outplayed by the opposition, found it hard to match the excellent performance of last week. Perhaps if we had managed to score during our first half period of dominance it might have been a different story.

Heads up lad’s, as someone in football once said “it’s only a game” !
