Ifield Community College

On another sunny, late summer morning this fourth league game of the season saw Twin Oaks up against Billingshurst. After playing their first home game of the season at Oriel High School in Maidenbower, Twin Oaks second home match took place at the new Ifield Community College , on what is to become their regular home pitch.

Before the start of play both sides stood in joint second spot in the league with six points a piece. This equal league position seemed to be reflected in the early passage of play with neither side being able to gain any sort of advantage. However after a cagey opening 15 minutes, it was Twin Oaks, who by intelligently using the whole width of the pitch, were able to mount the first concentrated wave of attacking pressure. With Cameron on the left of the attack and Ben on the right, the home side were able to find space down both flanks and slowly but surely they began to stretch the Billingshurst defence.

Following a series of efforts on goal it was Twin Oaks who took the lead on 20 minutes. Cameron linked up with a pass that was played down the left wing, controlling the ball as he ran he was able to fire off a left foot shot from just outside the six yard box. The Billingshurst goal-keeper managed to get a hand on the ball but he was unable to stop it from finding the corner of the net. 1-0 to Twin Oaks.

Billingshurst responded to the goal by creating a few of attacks of their own, but more often than not these were easily broken down and turned into counter attacking play by Twin Oaks. At half-time the score remained at 1-0.

Twin Oaks made a couple of substitutions for the second half with Murat on in midfield for an injured Scott and Luke replacing Jack in an attacking role.

With the Twin Oaks midfield starting to get a grip on the game and the reliable defence able to deal with anything that Billingshurst had to offer up front, the start of the second -half continued to see Twin Oaks pressing forward in search of the all important second goal. They did not have to wait long either as 5 minutes into the second-half

Twin Oaks scored. However rather than the goal coming open play it came from a well worked, if not rehearsed, corner.

With the Billingshurst defence concentrating on marking the players in the box, Cameron played a short corner to Bradley who took the ball to the edge of the penalty area before sending in a high curling shot that flew over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net. 2-0 ahead.

Again, like the first-half, good use of the width of the pitch and the accurate passing into space saw the Twin Oaks side mounting attack after attack. A third goal 10 minutes later virtually sealed the game and killed off any hope that Billingshurst may of had of making a comeback. A long through ball down the centre of the pitch found Bradley in a race on goal with a Billingshurst defender. Bradley managed to get to the ball first and slide it past the advancing goalkeeper. 3-0 the score.

With Billingshurst now offering little in the way of any attacking play, Twin Oaks sensed there were more goals for the taking. In fact they did not have to wait long before adding the fourth and fifth goals.

A well worked passing move saw Bradley race through the centre of the Billingshurst defence, towards the goal. With a one on one with the Billingshurst goalkeeper it seemed certain that he was about to slot the ball into the net for his hat-trick, however he unselfishly rolled the ball into the path of the overlapping Ben on the right wing who fired in his angled shot for the goal. A minute later however Bradley got his reward of a hat-trick after his well placed shot found the back of the Billingshurst net. The score now stood at 5-0.

To their credit Billingshurst kept going and in one of only a couple of attacks in the second-half they grabbed a well taken consolation goal. A good run with ball by their striker took him past the Twin Oaks defence before firing in a fierce shot high into the net over the keeper.

Twin Oaks however had the last say with a sixth goal, this again came from a well worked passing move that found Luke in open space. He calmly drilled the ball into the corner of the Billingshurst net, final score 6-1 to Twin Oaks !

In another enjoyable and exciting game all of the Twin Oaks players contributed well to an excellent team performance, but special mentions must go to Liam, Cameron, Bradley and in particular Murat, for their individual efforts during the game.
